Galungan and Kuningan
Galungan is Bali's major feast, symbolising the victory of Good (Dharma) over Evil (Adharma). This happens every 210 days and the whole island is beautifully decorated. Celebrations go on for 10 days and during this time, all the ancestors come to earth for the festivities. The last day of the festival is Kuningan when the ancestors return to heaven and the Balinese express their gratitude to the gods. Every village celebrates Kuningan in grand style, with colourful festivals held at temples throughout parts of Bali. The next Galungan falls on 18 March and 14 October, 2009 whilst next Kuningan falls on 28 March and 24 October, 2009.
Ubud Writers & Readers Festival: The 2008 Ubud Writers & Readers Festival is scheduled to take place between 14th and 19th October, 2008. This year's theme is Tri Hita Karana, focusing on the relationships between humans and God, humans with each other and humans and their enviroment. Amandari will host an intimate cocktail event during the Festival with acclaimed international author Vikram Seth as the guest of honour. The event will take place on October 17th, and the evening will start with cocktails, followed by a Balinese dance performance by children from Amandari's Dance School, and then an intimate and informal conversation with Mr Seth. He will also be signing books during the event.Additionally, on October 18th, Amandari will take great pride in introducing Jennifer Claire, who will be performing "Tolstoy's Wife". Inspired by the diaries of Countess Tolstoy, the play is beautifully written and performed by Ms Claire, who plays the role of Sonia, Tolstoy's wife, through the key periods in their married life. Previously, Ms Claire has performed the play in London, Sydney, Bali and New York.
Full Moon at Amandari
Every full moon, a local priest does a general prayer and blessing for staff. Any guests who wish to participate are welcome.

Certified member of Green Globe 21
Amandari has been certified for the second time as a member of the Green Globe 21. Green Globe 21 is the worldwide benchmarking and certification programme which facilitates sustainable travel and tourism for consumers, companies and communities. It is based on Agenda 21 and principles of Sustainable Development endorsed by 182 governments at the United Nations Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit in 1992. Amandari started these initiatives in August 2005.
